National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Drive Safe • Arrive Safe
We are continuing National Distracted Driving Awareness Month with the second principle in our S.A.F.E. framework – Awareness.

When we analyzed our 2025 motor vehicle incident data, Awareness was identified as a contributing factor in almost 90% of the serious incidents – a finding that is consistent with national road safety research and one we take seriously.

Our workforce drives over 68 million miles a year, and every mile of that exposure carries real risk – and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data provides us with the picture of what that risk looks like nationally. Speeding alone accounts for nearly 1 in 3 traffic fatalities (*NHTSA Data) – and 88% of those happen on non-interstate roads – the exact type of rural lease roads, county roads and access routes our teams drive every day. *Based on 2025 incident data.

Behind these statistics is often a moment where a driver ran out of time to react. Awareness is what buys that time back. It is the practice of reading the environment in real time so that when conditions change, you have the space to respond safely.
