DriveSafe™ | S.A.F.E | Eliminate Distractions

National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Drive Safe • Arrive Safe

We are closing National Distracted Driving Awareness Month with our fourth and final principle: Eliminate Distractions.

National Highway Transportation Safety Administration defines driver distraction as anything that takes your eyes off the road, hands off the wheel or mind off driving. When we look at our 2025 records, driver distraction was a risk multiplier in many of our serious incidents where awareness was already a factor. National road safety research is consistent with this finding – distraction is rarely the only cause of a crash, but it consistently reduces the amount of time a driver has to respond.

The Eliminate Distractions principle emphasizes:

  • Only use devices for texting, emails, or apps when safely parked
  • Activate ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode and set your music and navigation before you drive
  • Ensure all loose items (including beverages) are secured inside the vehicle
  • Offer to phone back later if the person you called is driving

This wraps our National Distracted Driving Awareness Month series. Thank you for engaging with each message, sharing each principle with your loved ones, and for carrying the DriveSafe™ commitment every time you get behind the wheel. Those stickers on your laptop, access badge or hard hat represent more than a commitment to a program – they represent a choice you have made to protect yourself and the people around you, every single day.

Thank you for keeping your eyes, hands, and mind focused on driving.
